The supervisor evaluation form for fashion merchandising interns includes a supervisor rating of the intern that will be extracted and averaged.

80% of business supervisors of fashion merchandising interns would give the intern a rating of 3.5 or higher on a 5.0 scale.
Finding Employer Rating
100% of employers rated program graduates for 2007-2008 (as interns) at least a 3.5 on a 5.0 scale.

Employer ratings of student interns who graduated during the 2007-2008 year were high (all were rated 4 on a 5.0 scale) indicating that the overall program is very sound and that no major changes in the program are recommended.

100% of business supervisors of program graduates for 2007-2008 (supervising them as fashion merchandising interns) indicated that they would hire the intern given the availability of a suitable entry-level management position in the company.

Action Employer Satisfaction With FCS Interns
100% of employers recommended hiring or made entry-level management positions offers to interns/program graduates for 2007-2008 meaning that the graduates were well-prepared for work in fashion merchandising. No further action is required in this regard.

GOAL: Student Knowledge Of Content Area

Objective Knowledge And Skills
Students graduating from the fashion merchandising program will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level management in fashion retailing/merchandising positions.

Indicator Survey Data  
The Exit Survey for fashion merchandising majors includes a section that tests retention of course material and a case study that applies directly to retail apparel merchandising; it is graded on a pass/fail basis.

80% of students who complete the fashion merchandising program''s Exit Survey will score a grade of Pass or High Pass according to the standardized grading rubric.

100% of program graduates of 2007-2008 scores a grade of Pass or High Pass on the program''s exit survey according to the standardized grading rubric.

Action Knowledge And Skills
Although this expectation was exceeded, as a regular part of the process, faculty in the fashion merchandising program will review the exam to determine whether the content is appropriate (i.e, reflective of content in the curriculum). A further change could be a revamp of the Exit Survey. Other factors (employer ratings, e.g.) indicate that course content is thorough and appropriate.

The faculty and staff will provide a department viewed by the students as satisfactory in regard to the building/facilities

80% of graduating seniors will rate the facility used by the department with a score of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
Finding Building/Facilities
60% of responding program graduates rated departmental building and facilities a 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale. (One program graduate from 2007-2008 did not respond.)
Actions for Objective:

Action Building/Facilities
Three of the five respondents (of six program graduates) for the BS in the 2007-2008 academic year rated the building/facilities 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and the other two students rated the building 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Faculty will contact the students with the low rating in order to ascertain their concerns regarding the building/facilities.

100% of respondents rated faculty in the fashion merchandising program as 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale. (Only one did not rate program faculty as a 4.0; that one rated program faculty as 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.)
Actions for Objective:

No major change in faculty is needed based on this survey data feedback. (Minor change in one adjunct teaching in the program occurred due to a change in availability of instructors.)

Objective Opportunities For Networking
The faculty will provide a department viewed by the students as satisfactory in regard to opportunities for networking.

Exit survey data that includes a rating of the opportunities for networking providing to the student will be extracted and analyzed.
Criteria Student rating score - networking
80% of graduating seniors will rate the opportunities for networking with a score of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0.

100% of respondents (one of the program graduates did not respond to this item) for 2007-2008 rated opportunities for networking as a 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Action Opportunities for Networking
Although the response of students indicated that opportunities for networking were adequate, faculty in program will make a more concerted effort to direct students toward networking opportunities, including career fairs, career days, and guest speakers.

The faculty will provide a department viewed by the students as satisfactory in regard to professional organizations.

Action Professional Organizations
Although this group indicated that professional organizations were adequate, perhaps this objective should be removed from the feedback loop; often when students commute or are required to work long hours in order to stay in school, this may not translate into an appropriate measure of program effectiveness.

Action Program Content
Program will continue offering content as outlined in the college catalog and course syllabuses and with current textbook offerings except for a change of textbook in FCS 266 based on student survey data. A newly published textbook for FCS 266 is superior in content to what was previously available.
