Tier 1 & 2 are defined to be the union of journals so designated by various ranking systems. The department seeks to have at least 6 Tier 1 or 2 publications each year

There were 10 articles published by department faculty in Tier 1 or 2 journals during 2007-2008
Criteria Published articles per faculty member
Each faculty member submits at least one article or case study for publication in a professional journal every year.

There were a total of 30 refereed articles published by the department last year, an average of 1.8 per tenure/tenure track faculty member
Actions for Objective:

Action Brown Bag seminars
The department is initiating a series of brown bag seminars at which faculty will present and discuss current research topics.
Action Faculty Development Leave
The department will sponsor faculty development leave for one faculty per year in order to encourage higher quality research

Action Classroom visitations
Classroom visitations of non-tenured faculty were deemed useful in 2007-08 and will continue in 2008-09. Visits will be extended to all faculty below 45 in the IDEAS assessment

Actions for Objective:

Action Coaching & Mentoring
Faculty reviews have been increased to twice annually (fall & spring) to make sure that development plans are on track
Action Course Objectives
Course Coordinators will develop course objectives for assessment. These objectives will then be dovetailed with Economics Degree objectives. In this way each course will be assessed as part of the overall Economics BBA assessment
Action Course Scheduling
Preference in course scheduling will be given to AQ faculty. Non-AQ faculty will not be assigned summer teaching
Action Latin American Minor
The department will initiate a Latin American Studies minor in conjunction with our International Business Major
