Dr. Rebecca Bustamante was hired to help with the doctoral program; she has expertise in research regarding multiculturalism and societal factors affecting education.

Positive trends within the department (including number of applicants, applicant diversity, and applicant quality)
Finding admission of doctoral students
From 52 applicants, 21 new doctoral students were admitted, comprising Cohorts 16-17 (two withdrew for personal reasons after the first semester,before they were evaluated). This group included 6 men and 13 women; ethnic representation included 15 white, 0 Hispanic, 2 African American, and 1 Asian students. Also included in this group were five higher education leadership students. The average GRE score for this group was 1052.

Action Faculty recruitment
Two new positions are available in the doctoral program for the upcoming year. Recruitment efforts will continue to fill these positions with strong candidates.
Action Student recruitment
The program will continue to recruit highly qualified and diverse students for future doctoral cohorts. An increase in Hispanic students will be emphasized. Students for the community college executive leadership will be a specific target area.

Finding Faculty research
Faculty involved in all aspects of the doctoral program (teaching courses and/or dissertation service) had a total of 144 publications and 201 presentations for this time period.
Actions for Objective:

Action Faculty publications and presentations
Faculty will be encouraged to maintain the current level of publications and presentations. Avaialble travel funds will be used to encourage conference presentations. Other available funds will be used to encourage research endeavors for publications (data anaylysis software, etc.).

GOAL: Student Engagement

Doctoral students in Educational Leadership will make research presentations at regional and national conferences.

Criteria Student presentations
Doctoral students will present their research at local, regional, or national conferences; at least 50% of currently enrolled doctoral students will make a presentation.
Finding Student presentations at Graduate Research Exchang
27 students participated in the Graduate Research Exchange, hosted by the Doctoral program in Educational Leadership (April 2007). Fifteen of the students were EDL students.
Finding Student presentations at SERA
Ten doctoral students made research presentations at the Southwest Educational Research Association in San Antonio, TX (Feb, 2006).
Finding international presentations
Ten doctoral students traveled to Mexico City and Puebla to participate in an international internship in educational leadership (summer 2006). All 10 students presented research projects at Universidad Iberoamericana and earned a grade of A for the course.

Action Student presentations
Students will continue to be encouraged to present research at SERA, the Graduate Research Exchange, and other appropriate avenues. Students will also be encouraged to submit their research for publication. New competencies for doctoral students will be required; these competencies will include submitting research for publication and presentation.

Doctoral students in Educational Leadership will make progress towards completing program goals and successfully engaging in dissertation research.

Doctoral students in educational leadership will make progress towards completing program goals and dissertation research.
Criteria Progress towards graduation
At least 75% of currently enrolled doctoral students will make progress towards completing program goals and graduation (completing dissertation research).
Finding Student progress towards graduation
No students were removed for academic performance. One student resigned for personal reasons. The remaining students all made satisfactory progress in their coursework. Fifteen students graduated with their Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership in the 2006-07 academic year.

Action Student progress towards graduation
Student feedback will be solicited regarding what the program can do to facilitate their progress towards graduation. EDL 710 (workshop courses) will be used to solicit feedback and to inform students in detail of the dissertation process and expectations.
