4 Goals     5 Objectives     6 Indicators     6 Criteria     6 Findings     5 Actions

GOAL: Fundamental

Objective Ancillary Knowledge Aquisition
To have students acquire a basic knowledge in ancillary sciences, math and liberal arts.
Associated Goals: Fundamental

Indicator Calculus Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM majors in MTH 142 & 143.
Criteria Calc Pass Rate
60% of the CHM majors enrolled in MTH 142 & 143 are expected to earn grades of C or better.
Finding Math Pass Rate
The passing rate for on sequence MTH 142 and 143 are 46.7% and 57.1%, respectively. The rates in trailer sections are lower (21.1% for MTH 142 in the spring).
Indicator Physics Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM majors in PHY 138/118 & 139/119.
Criteria Phys Pass Rate
75% of the CHM majors enrolled in PHY 138/118 & 139/119 are expected to earn grades of C or better.
Finding Physics Pass Rate
The passing rates for on sequence PHY 138 and 139 are 88.9% and 90.0%, respectively. The rates for trailer sections are lower (21.4% for PHY 138 in spring and 60.0% for PHY 139 in fall).
Actions for Objective:

Action Continue Ancillary
Continue to monitor student progress on ancillary knowledge acquisition. Consider a change in calculus expectation.

GOAL: Fundamental

Objective Fundamental Knowledge Acquisition
To have students master sufficient fundamental knowledge of chemistry to allow them to proceed.
Associated Goals: Fundamental

Indicator General Chem Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM majors in CHM 138/118 & 139/119
Criteria Gen Chem Pass
60% of the CHM majors enrolled in CHM 138/118 & 139/119 are expected to earn grades of C or better.
Finding CHM 138 & 139 pass
The passing rate for on sequence CHM 138 and 139 are 62.3% and 61.5%, respectively. The rates in trailer sections are lower (50.0% for CHM 138 in the spring).
Actions for Objective:

Action Continue Fundamental
Continue to monitor student progress on fundamental knowledge acquisition.

GOAL: Intermediate

Objective Intermediate Knowledge Acquisition
To have students master sufficient intermediate knowledge of chemistry to allow them to proceed.
Associated Goals: Intermediate

Indicator Organic Chem Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM majors in CHM 238/218 & 239/219.
Criteria Org Chem Pass
75% of the CHM majors enrolled in CHM 238/218 & 239/219 are expected to earn grades of C or better
Finding CHM 238 & 239 pass
The passing rate for on sequence CHM 238 and 239 are 80.8% and 88.2%, respectively. The rates in trailer sections are lower (50.0% for CHM 238 in the spring).
Actions for Objective:

Action Continue Intermediate
Continue to monitor student progress on intermediate knowledge acquisition.

GOAL: Major

Objective Major Knowledge Acquisition
To have students acquire knowledge of chemistry that is specialized to the major field.
Associated Goals: Major

Indicator Junior Level Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM majors in CHM 440 and 448.
Criteria Jr Pass Rate
90% of the CHM majors enrolled in CHM 440 and 448 are expected to earn grades of C or better.
Finding Junior Pass Rate
The passing rate for CHM 448 was 90.9% (10/11), for CHM 440 was 91.7% (11/12) and for CHM 449 was 100% (7/7).
Actions for Objective:

Action Continue Major
Continue to monitor student progress on acquisition of knowledge in the major.

GOAL: Research

Objective Research Experience
To have students acquire research experience in Chemistry.
Associated Goals: Research

Indicator Research Experience
Number of CHM majors participating in chemical research.
Criteria Researchers
Number of CHM majors enrolled in CHM 495 during the year.
