GOAL: Develop Knowledge And Skills

Objective  
Development Of Students' Knowledge And Skill
Students will be required to demonstrate competency in key areas of Design and Development.

Indicator  
Advanced Design And Development Course Rubric  
All students enrolled in the program are required to complete the Advanced Design course. Each semester seven randomly selected student assignments from the Advanced Design course will be reviewed by faculty members with expertise in the field.  Faculty members will score the assignments using a scale of 1 - 5 with 3 "meets expectations," 4 "exceeds expectations," and 5 "far exceeds expectations."

Criterion  
At Least 70% Meeting Expectations  
There will be a general consensus among I T Faculty members that at least 70% of the students enrolled in the advanced production course will perform at an acceptable level with a score of 3 (meets standards) or higher.
Finding  
Drafting And Designs  
There is a difference in detail between male and female projects.  Female tend to be more precise, detail oriented and creative.  Males, who typically have part-time jobs, tend to be more to the point with out additional attributes to designs.  Nonethess, expectations were met with average score of 4.0.

Actions for Objective:

Faculty will not stereotype student based on gender but will continue to emphasis creativity and detail to drafting projects.  Expectations will remain.



GOAL: Develop Professional Skills

Objective  
Demonstrate Professional Skills
Students completing the BS in Design and Development (D&D) will demonstrate skills necessary to compete in the professional marketplace through an internship.

Indicator  
ITED 4391 Internship Evaluation  
All students enrolled in the program must complete ITED 4391 in their final year of enrollment. ITEC 4391 addresses key concepts and skills relevant to the field of design. Each semester interns will be evaluated by their internship supervisor and by their faculty supervisor on a faculty-developed rating scale.
Criterion  
80% Meeting Expectations  
There will be a general consensus among ITEC Faculty members who review both university and internship supervisor assessments that at least 80% of the students enrolled in ITED 4391 demonstrated an above average level of performance on the rating scales.  
Finding  
Student Internships  
Internships for students in D&D are pooled with students in Construction.  Assessments are equal.  D&D students have been successful in achieving internship experience and faculty expectations.  Employers have been positive with student skills, accountability and professionalism.  Average score 4.1
Actions for Objective:

Action  
Internship Outreach  
Internship opportunities for D&D students are less available than for Construction students.  Faculty will focus to expand internships in this field with invitations to department career fairs and site visits.




Previous Cycle's "Plan for Continuous Improvement"

Professionalism and growth will be emphasis to students from faculty by inviting companies and discussing the topic during the career fair.  More emphasis will be given to creativity and detail of projects.
Update on Previous Cycle's "Plan for Continuous Improvement"

Faculty experienced some software issues.  IT@SAM was involved the issues at times did limit access to program features and print functions for students.
Plan for Continuous Improvement

Expand internship opportunities for students with D&D skills and degree.  Faculty will focus on outreach into this area.  Students will be continue to required to demonstrate drafting skills, creativity, precision and accuracy of projects.
