GOAL: Develop Knowledge And Skills

Objective  
Development Of Students' Knowledge And Skills
Students will be able to demonstrate competency in key areas of industrial technology.


Indicator  
Advanced Technology Course Assignment Rubric  
All students enrolled in the program must complete the Advanced Industrial Technology course in their final year of enrollment.  The course addresses key concepts and skills relevant to the field of Industrial Technology. Each semester seven randomly selected student assignments from the Advanced Industrial Technology course will be reviewed by faculty members with expertise in the field of industrial technology.  Faculty members will score the assignments using a scale of 1 - 5 with 3 "meets expectations," 4 "exceeds expectations," and 5 "far exceeds expectations."

Criterion  
At Least 80% Meeting Expectations  
There will be a general consensus among I T Faculty members that at least 80% of the students enrolled in the advanced production course will perform at an acceptable level with a score of 4 (exceeds expectations) or higher.
Finding  
Student Drafting Skills  
Students demonstrated their drafting knowledge and ability by using CAD software.  Faculty had diffficulty, initially with installation problems but this was overcome.  The students projects demonstrated success in use of the software and their ability with an overall score of evaluated materials of 4.1.

Actions for Objective:

Skills In CAD  
Faculty will continue to emphasize drafting and drafting skills with CAD, since this a critical criterion required by employers. Accuracy and precision of drawings will be assessed.


GOAL: Develop Professional Skills

Objective  
Demonstrate Professional Skills
Students completing the BS in Instructional Technology will demonstrate skills necessary to compete in the professional marketplace through an internship.

Indicator  
ITEC 4391 Internship Evaluation  
All students enrolled in the program must complete ITEC 4391 in their final year of enrollment. ITEC 4391 addresses key concepts and skills, as well as practical demonstrations of competency relevant to the field of industrial technology. Each semester interns will be evaluated by their internship supervisor and by their faculty supervisor on a faculty-developed rating scale.
Criterion  
85% Meeting Expectations  
There will be a general consensus among I T Faculty members who review both university and internship supervisor assessments that at least 85% of the students enrolled in ITEC 4391 demonstrated an acceptable level of performance on the rating scales.  
Finding  
Student Performance  
Students successfully completed internship.  There was variability in job descriptions but employer assessments recognized that students were completent in industry content and skill, accountable and professional.  Faculty interviews with employer and student demonstracted success, as well.  Students exceeded expectations and minimal standard of 3 with 4.5.

Actions for Objective:

Drafting  
Faculty will continue to emphasize industry skill sets to students based on employer input and exit interviews with students.  Consider increase excectations to 4.0.



Previous Cycle's "Plan for Continuous Improvement"

Students have demonstrated success in skill sets required by the assessing faculty.  We plan to increase expectations for next academic year.  Spending more time in the drafting lab  working on exercises to increase design accuracy will be a priority.

Update on Previous Cycle's "Plan for Continuous Improvement"

All assessments were positive and implemented for this cycle.  Though internships vary in company and skill sets, the program and students have demonstrated success.
Plan for Continuous Improvement

Faculty will continue to review curriculum to ensure it provides skill sets requested by employers and the industry.  Continue to review software for CAD courses and drafting skills.
