ABOUT OUR NURSING PROGRAM: The Texas State University Board of Regents of Sam Houston State University (SHSU) approved a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at their November 2008 meeting. In January 2008, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board authorized Sam Houston State University to move forward with the planning phase of a new BSN program. The Nursing program at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) received initial approval from the Texas Board of Nursing on October 21, 2010. The Board of Regents has authorized the Nursing Program to become an official Department of Nursing in the College of Sciences starting Fall 2012.

Although we have faculty in place and classes being held, there was tremendous turnover within the past year including faculty and director.  We have been fortunate to hire a director with expertise for 2012-2013.  We expect that the program will become stable and learning objectives established and assessment of the objectives in place during 2012-2013.

With the change in director, some reorganization is in progress.

Closing the Loop

The new director is at the helm and already reorganizing the program to promote quality graduates. 2012-2013 will be our first year to function as our own separate department.
