GOAL: Application Of Leadership And Management Content / Principles

Objective
Students Will Demonstrate Integration Of Principles
Students preparing to graduate with a Master of Science will demonstrate the ability to integrate principles of theory and practice related to leadership and management in criminal justice.

Indicator
Integrated Major Paper Rubric
As a part of the capstone course for this degree, CJ 6388, students will complete a major integrated paper in an area of emergent interest in the field of criminal justice incorporating the theories, principles and practices addressed in the M.S. In Leadership and Management course curriculum.  A faculty-developed rubric with relevant scoring criteria is used to evaluate the papers.

Criterion
At Least 80% Of Students Will Obtain A Rating Of Satisfactory Or Better
At least 80% of the students will demonstrate their knowledge and integration related to the principles of leadership and management addressed in the program in sufficient depth so as to receive a designation of “satisfactory” or better.  As stated last year, there are more sections and methods of delivery so that one focus will be internal consistency.

Finding
98% Obtained A Satisfactory Of Better Rating
This project required students to develop an "Emergent Issues Portfolio Project" (EIPP) that demonstrates their ability to identify critical issues facing the criminal justice system.  They were to apply the skill sets that they have learned throughout their program of study to identify methods available to respond to these issues.

Of the students assess, 98% obtained a "satisfactory" or better rating on the EIPP.
Actions for Objective:

Action
Ongoing Evolution
Though the identified goal was met and exceeded, appropriate review of the EIPP and assessment criteria will show us areas where we can improve the process.  We may have peaked on this goal or, at least, need to raise the criterion for next year.

GOAL: Core Competencies

Objective
Demonstrate Knowledge And Integration Of Core Competencies
Students graduating with a MS in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management will integration of core knowledge and integration of core competencies

Indicator
Integrated Program Assessment
A comprehensive assessment of the major issues and principles related to the area of criminal justice leadership and management is completed in the final semester of study.  The faculty-developed assessment addresses relevant areas of interest and is based on the program curriculum. Through item analyses of assessment results, strengths and weaknesses in the mastery of core competencies emerge.

Criterion
At Least 85% Of Students Will Score Of 80% Or Better.
Since we easily reached the 80% last year, we are raising the standard to at least 85% of the students will score 80% or better on this assessment.
Finding
Greater Than 90% Of Participants Scored 85% Or Better
More than 90% of the participants scored 85% or better in the assessment of major issues related to the area of criminal Justice leadership.  These areas specifically focused on the information presented during their degree program.
Actions for Objective:

Action
Ongoing Review Of Core Competencies In Curriculum
Though the criteria for the objective were exceeded, we will review the core competencies addressed in the overall program of study. Additional areas for inclusion will be considered in order to refine the assessment process. Additionally, we will raise our criterion next year.

GOAL: Knowledge Of Psychological And Interpersonal Issues

Objective
Demonstrate Knowledge Of Psychological And Interpersonal Issues
Students will demonstrate knowledge of psychological and interpersonal issues related to criminal justice leadership and management.

Indicator
Interpersonal And Psychological Assessment
As a part CJ 663, participants complete a written assessment of applicable skills, knowledge, and capacity involving psychological and interpersonal issues relevant in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management.
Criterion
At Least 85% Of Students Will Obtain A Score Of 80% Or Better.
Again, we easily reached the 80% last year; thus, we are raising the standard to at least 85% of the students will score 80% or better on this assessment.

Finding
Greater Than 90% Of Students Scored 85% Or Better
A written assessment of the psychological and interpersonal skills, knowledge and capacity associated with the program content related to leadership and management revealed that more than 90% of the degree-seeking participants score 85% or better. This process assessed specific areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities introduced during the course of study.
Actions for Objective:

Action
Ongoing Review Of Relevant Assessment Components
Though the criteria were exceeded, a review of program-based information relating to the skills, knowledge, and abilities involved in leadership and management is ongoing. Additional areas for inclusion in the comprehensive assessment will be considered. Additionally, we will be raising the criteria for this objective next year.

Closing the Loop

As a component of our Continuous Quality Improvement program, a review of the instruments and criterion related to these goals and objectives is ongoing. As additional components are identified, appropriate adjustments will be made to the process. We will be stretching ourselves by raising the criterion for each objective.
