  • Work appears in several anthologies, including Best Sports Stories and "Personal Best," which features articles by 25 leading American writers and authors, among them Norman Mailer, George Plimpton, Budd Schulberg, David Halberstam and Gay Talese. In 1995 became the first Texas writer known to sweep four first place awards for best sports columns, including Associated Press, Texas Headliners, Houston Headliners and Texas Managing Editors competitions. In 1968, was the first writer in Associated Press history to win first place awards in three national categories, sports, science (coverage of Apollo 11) and politics (coverage of Democratic and Republican political conventions.)
  • In addition to positions that range across the spectrum of the sports world, has been a vice president of Living Well, a national physical fitness chain; and a media consultant to the Maxxam Corporation and the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski. Has been sought nationally as a public speaker, appearing before civic, business and sports groups in such cities as Atlanta, Dallas, Daytona Beach, Little Rock, Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego and Washington, D.C.
  • Was the second media delegate chosen from the U. S. for the Laureus World Sports Academy, an organization consisting of more than 100 of the world's leading athletes and whose board includes Nelson Mandela and Prince Rainier of Monaco.
  • Sports editor, The Houston Post, at age 26; assistant managing editor, The Houston Post; vice-president, public relations, American Football League; partner, vice president and acting general manager, Houston Rockets, NBA; editor, New York sports magazine, and two Texas sports magazines. Television sports anchor, Channel 2, Houston; radio commentary, KPRC, Houston, for more than 10 years; appearances in more than 12 network documentaries on HBO, ESPN and Biography channels.
