Narrative
Sam Houston State University provides the entire campus community and the public current academic calendars and refund policies primarily via the SHSU website. Future academic calendars are available on the University website as well. All instructors are expected to include an explanation of their grading system on their syllabi [1] and two of the colleges have formalized this with a procedural template [2] [3].
The University Registrar posts the academic calendar on the SHSU website, and updates to the calendar are made as necessary based upon changes due to legislative action or administrative decisions [4]. The SHSU Academic Calendar is in compliance with THECB Rules and Regulations [5].
At SHSU, faculty are responsible for determining the grading system for each course taught. The faculty member is charged with informing their students as to the grading value of each assignment/test/etc. The SHSU grading system can be found in both the 2006 -2008 Undergraduate Catalog [6] and 2007 – 2009 Gradate Catalog [7].
Refund policies, as well as tuition and fee tables and payment options information, are posted online for student and public review through the schedule of classes as well as in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs [8] [9] [10]. The refund policy at SHSU includes a pro-rated refund for students who officially withdraw from the university during a scheduled period, in accordance with Section 54.006 of the Texas Education Code [11].
