GOAL: International Faculty Development

Objective International Faculty Development
To provide increased services to faculty members in terms of international faculty development opportunities.
Associated Goals: International Faculty Development

Indicator Faculty Development Workshops
Workshops will be offered once a semester for faculty international development opportunities
Criteria Faculty Development Workshops 2007-2008
Provide workshops once a semester that focus on encouraging faculty members to develop short-term study abroad courses and encouraging faculty to apply for CIEE International Faculty Development Summer Seminars.
Finding International Faculty Development
During the academic year 2007-2008, presentations were made on faculty exchange and research development opportunities by the representatives from our exchange universities from Japan, Germany, and the Philippines, in addition to a Fulbright teacher from Korea. Also throughout International Week, visiting scholars presented on the same topic. Our keynote speaker was from IIE. One faculty member participated in the CIEE faculty development summer seminar ''07.
Actions for Objective:

Action Faculty Development
Presentations and workshops on faculty development for international faculty exchange and research opportunities will be continuously offered. CIEE International Faculty Development participants will be pursued.

Plan and implement academic and cultural programming to enhance internationalization of the campus

Indicator Workshops And Social Actvities
At least three workshops and cultural activities will be provided to the students for social and academic support.
Criteria Workshops for International Students
Provide workshops twice a semester to meet international students'' needs.
Finding International Programming
During the academic year 2007-2008, cultural presentations were focused on the Philippines. Students from South Korea and Japan presented traditional dance perfomances. During International Festival, more than 15 countries were represented through booths. Several Chinese students presented on contemporary Chinese women''s issues. During welcome week, Japanese students demonstrated non-verbal communication through an original script.

Cultural demonstrations and presentations will be continuously offered next academic year in order to further internationalize the university.

Objective Provide Academic And Social Support For International Students
Provide needed information and services to increase students who study abroad.

Academic presentations and cultural actvities will be offered to enhance internationalization of the campus.

Provide international presentations or cultural activities twice a semester to enhance international programming
Finding International Student Programming
During academic year 2007-2008, an orientation for new students was offered at the beginning of each semester. Workshops on Curricular Practical Training/Optional Practical Training, H-1B (employment opportunities), tax filing, and building study skills were offered. In addition, we assisted International Student Organization to implement social and cultural activities, including International Festival. Social activities included the Fall Picnic and the spring Meet and Greet designed for international students to meet local students, faculty and staff.

International student enrollment fall 06 will be compared with fall 07 to determine enrollment increase/decrease
Criteria Enrollment for Academic Year 2007-2008
Expect increase of 5% over Academic Year 06-07.
Finding Enrollment Totals for 2007-2008
Our enrollment increase was only 2%, because House Bill 1403 students were no longer included as international students for headcount.
Actions for Objective:

Action International Student Enrollment
Continue to recruit students from area community colleges and English language programs in Austin. Utilize faculty members and students who have connections with potential international students.

GOAL: Study Abroad

Objective Increase Number Of Students Who Study Abroad
Plan and implement workshops that supplement international students' academic goals. Also, provide activities to support these students socially.

Indicator Study Abroad
Study abroad fairs will be offered at least twice a semester.
Criteria Study Abroad Enrollment
Increase number of students who participate in study abroad courses/programs.
Finding Study Abroad Enrollment
For academic year 2007-2008, the total number of students participating in short-term and long term study abroad programs will be compared to the total of 2006-2007, which was 163.
Criteria Workshops/Fairs for Study Abroad
Provide study abroad fairs to encourage students to pursue study abroad.
Finding Study Abroad
Study Abroad Fair was offered at Saturdays @ SAM for Fall and Spring, during Parents Weekend, Diversity Week and International Week. We talked to counselors, potential study abroad students and their parents at these events. Numerous people stopped by our booth for inquiries at each event.

Action Study Abroad
Workshops and fairs that promote Study Abroad will be continued for the upcoming academic year as they were well attended and received.
