DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The Department of Foreign Languages offers a Master of Arts in Spanish.  This 36-hour program will provide students with the skills necessary for careers as instructors of Spanish in secondary and higer education institutions, for further doctoral study, and for entering the workforce as teachers, interpreters, and/or bilingual employees in varius industries and services. 

Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission to the graduate program in Spanish must submit the following: 
    1.  a completed Graduate Studies Application for Admission with the application fee to Graduate Studies,
    2.  official transcripts  from all colleges and universities attended, including the transcript that shows the date the undergraduate degree was conferred,
    3.  official GRE scores,

 

Degree Requirements

Master of Arts, Plan I. Plan I requires a minimum of 36 hours of graduate credit.  Required courses are SPN 532, 533, 534, 537, 538, 574, 570, 571. Students must take an additional 6 hours from SPN 460*, 470*, 531, 536, 572, 573.  Students must take an additional 6 hours in SPN at the graduate level.

Master of Arts, Plan II. Plan II requires a minimum of 36 hours of graduate credit. Required courses are SPN 532, 533, 534, 537, 538, 574, 570, 571, two courses (6 hours) fromt he following: BSL 565, 477*, 571, and/or 577.  Students must also take 6 hours from SPN 460*, 470*, 531, 536, 572, 537, 573.
